OUR STORY
Kamalesh Rao, the company founder and CEO, was part of a team that developed a long-acting injectable (LAI) resembling a strand of spaghetti less than an inch long that, when impregnated with a medication, is placed subdermally in humans to provide month long relief from the symptoms associated with opioid addiction withdrawal.
Lifescient is reformulating medications prescribed for daily use to pets into long-acting injectables by combining this technology with a biodegradable polymer approved by the FDA for use in humans. The LAI is placed in a simple procedure, similar to the placement of a microchip, and can provide medication for days, weeks or months at a time. After the treatment course, the LAI is safely absorbed and does not have to be removed.
